AMMAN — The conference held in Cairo by the Arab League and the State of Palestine in support of Jerusalem, represents a diplomatic Arab gathering that holds the Hashemite Custodianship as a regional option for endurance and international legitimacy, and its decisions as a global option for peace and regional stability, Secretary-General of the Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Abdullah Kanaan said on Saturday. Kanaan added that a “thorough examination” of His Majesty King Abdullah's speech at the conference would reveal his adherence to the inalienable constants related to the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The reconstruction of Al Aqsa Mosque coincides with the reconstruction of the Church of the Resurrection, which is proof of coexistence and tolerance, as well as preserving the historical status quo that gives Jerusalemites the freedom to worship, he said.
Mahmoud Al Habbash, the Palestinian president's adviser on religious and Islamic affairs, as well as Palestinian Authority's top Sharia judge, said that the King's speech at the Cairo conference in support of Jerusalem conveyed a “strong and clear message”, which emphasised Jordan's firm position regarding the Palestinian cause and its support for the Palestinian people. He added that the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem is a shared Jordanian-Palestinian position, according to the Jordan news Agency, Petra.
