AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Sunday met with the newly appointed UN Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffith, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
During the meeting, Safadi and Griffith discussed latest developments in Yemen on the humanitarian and political levels.
Safadi stressed Jordan's support to efforts of the envoy's office in Amman to facilitate its mandate.
The top diplomat stressed the Kingdom's commitment to supporting the legitimacy in Yemen in a way that guarantees restoring its security and stability, and maintaining its sovereignty and unity on the basis of the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, the Gulf Initiative and the UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
For his part, Griffith, who succeeded Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed of Mauritania, voiced his appreciation for Jordan's efforts to reach a political solution in Yemen and hosting the office in Amman, stressing eagerness to continue coordination with the Kingdom.
In June last year, the government approved a temporary relocation of the office from New York to Amman.
The decision “reflects the international community’s trust in Jordan’s diplomatic capabilities and its role in supporting regional security and stability,” a statement said.
