AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, chairing a National Policies Council (NPC) meeting on Sunday, followed up on distance learning procedures at universities.

The meeting, attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, covered the need for the government and concerned stakeholders to enhance remote learning infrastructure and content for university students, while ensuring easy access through reliable telecom network coverage, according to a Royal Court statement.

At the meeting, also attended by HRH Prince Feisal, adviser to His Majesty and NPC chairperson, King Abdullah stressed the need for a dedicated team to follow up on distance learning for university students to continuously improve it based on feedback from students and university professors.

Moreover, His Majesty urged the government to work on meeting the basic needs of daily labourers during the crisis caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The King also called for assisting exporters to meet their obligations in terms of exports without negatively affecting the needs of the local market, the statement said.

Also speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Omar Razzaz outlined the plan being prepared by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to ensure the continuity of public and private university education.

The prime minister added that the government, since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, had formed several teams to reorganise essential sectors and prepare them to resume operation.

He said the government on Sunday formed three main teams to safeguard the national economy; oversee basic services, including education, higher education, health, water and electricity; and provide legal, administrative, field and media support to all sectors and task forces.
