AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Rania, on Monday met with Jeff Bezos, the founder and CEO of Amazon.com, Inc.

Talks at the meeting, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, focused on investment privileges and incentives offered by the Jordanian economy, and the Kingdom’s strategic location that qualifies it to be an economic platform to reach regional and international markets, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty’s talks with Bezos also addressed the future plans of Amazon.com, as well as the ability of Jordan, as a regional ICT hub, to attract investments in this sector, especially since it offers qualified human resources and a suitable infrastructure.

Bezos praised the privileges and incentives offered by the Jordanian economy and the Kingdom’s investment climate, which highlights the Jordanian market’s importance as a destination for various international companies.

The ICT sector contributes 12 per cent of the Kingdom’s gross domestic product.

Based in Seattle, Washington, Amazon.com, Inc. is a US electronic commerce and cloud computing company. It is one of the largest Internet-based retailer in the world in terms of total sales and market capitalisation.

ICT Minister Majd Shweikeh, Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Yarub Qudah and several Amazon executives attended the meeting.
