AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah and Iraq President Abdul Latif Rashid, during a meeting at Basman Palace on Tuesday, discussed the deep-rooted ties between Jordan and Iraq.
The meeting covered ways to expand cooperation in economic, trade, and investment fields, as well as developing joint electricity interconnection projects, and facilitating trade and the movement of goods and people between the two countries, according to a Royal Court statement.
His Majesty emphasised the importance of building on existing cooperation in the fields of energy, trade, transport, and economic integration.
The meeting also touched on recent regional developments, efforts to restore stability, and supporting peaceful solutions to crises in a manner that guarantees the sovereignty of states, and the security of their territories.
The King reiterated the need to ensure commitment to implementing all stages of the agreement to end the war in Gaza, and to halt the dangerous escalations in the West Bank.
His Majesty called for strengthening joint Arab action to intensify humanitarian response efforts in Gaza, and remove restrictions that hinder the delivery of relief aid.
The King warned of the dangers of unilateral measures against Palestinians, as well as violations of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
The two leaders stressed their unwavering position in support of the legitimate rights of Palestinians, foremost among which is the establishment of their independent state.
For his part, President Rashid affirmed Iraq’s readiness to strengthen relations with Jordan, and to continue working in the interests of the two peoples, in order to contribute to the consolidation of security, stability, and development in the region.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply and Escort of Honour Yarub Qudah, and the accompanying Iraqi delegation attended the meeting.
