AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday warned that thousands of innocent Palestinians are at risk if the war on Gaza does not end, adding that it may push the entire region into a new cycle of violence.

During a meeting with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin, King Abdullah warned of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza due to the shortage of food, water and medicine, noting the importance of ensuring the sustainability of the medical sector to provide urgent services to treat sick and injured Palestinians, according to a Royal Court statement.

His Majesty reaffirmed rejection of attempts to forcibly displace the Palestinians and cause their internal displacement, stressing that such attempts would plunge the region into another disaster and a new cycle of violence and destruction.

The King called for respecting international law and international humanitarian law in protecting civilians and condemning their targeting.

His Majesty stressed the need to work towards a political horizon that would guarantee the prospects for just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution and international law and relevant UN resolutions.

The meeting also covered bilateral ties and means to expand them across various sectors, as well as the importance of maintaining coordination on developments in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Jafar Hassan, and Jordan’s Ambassador to Germany Yousef Bataineh attended the meeting.
