AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Tuesday reaffirmed that Jordan, which is celebrating the state’s centennial this year, will continue building on progress, capitalising on ideas and opportunities to advance society and bolster the Kingdom’s regional and international standing.

During a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace with figures from a number of governorates, attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, King Abdullah said he is pleased to start the new year by continuing outreach activities with Jordanians, according to a Royal Court statement.

Discussing the COVID-19 pandemic, His Majesty commended public awareness that helped limit its spread, which contributed to recent improvements in the epidemiological situation, warning that the fight against the pandemic is not over yet.

The King also noted the efforts of the government and the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army in establishing field hospitals, stressing the need to continue coordination among all stakeholders and raise awareness on the COVID-19 vaccine.

For their part, the attendees congratulated His Majesty on the occasion of the state’s centennial, which was built with the determination of Jordanians and the Hashemite leadership, and noted the importance of maintaining national archives and records.

They highlighted the need to address the impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector and enhance remote learning, praising the timely efforts of constructing field hospitals.

For his part, Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi said suggestions presented during the meeting will be conveyed to the government.

Adviser to His Majesty for Policies Haifa Khraisha, Adviser to His Majesty for Tribal Affairs Atef Hajaya, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Hneiti attended the meeting.
