King, German chancellor discuss strategic partnership in video call

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday received a video call from German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss Jordanian-German ties and means of bolstering strategic cooperation and partnership in various sectors.
During the discussions, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II, King Abdullah expressed appreciation of Germany’s support for Jordan and the region, and stressed the importance of maintaining coordination and consultation over various issues of mutual concern, especially the COVID-19 response.
The call also covered regional and international developments, the Palestinian cause, and efforts to counterterrorism and extremist ideology within a holistic approach.
His Majesty reaffirmed that terrorism violates religious and humanitarian principles, which call for promoting harmony and mutual respect, while denouncing hate speech.
For her part, Chancellor Merkel stressed Germany’s readiness to support Jordan’s COVID-19 response efforts.
Foreign and Security Policy Adviser to the German Chancellor Jan Hecker attended the video call.
