AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army, on Monday attended a military exercise conducted by the Royal Field Air Defence Directorate.

His Majesty, accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, was briefed by Air Defence Director Brig. Gen. Suleiman Al Hamaideh on the readiness of the directorate’s units, as well as plans to upgrade their arms and equipment, according to a Royal Court statement.

The exercise included simulation of a defensive battle, dealing with various aerial targets and intercepting drones, with the participation of command, control, and early warning units.

The King viewed an arms exhibition showcasing the devices, equipment, and ammunition used by the Royal Air Defence units, the statement said.

His Majesty commended the proficiency of the units participating in the exercise, emphasising the importance of continued modernisation and development to enhance readiness.

Since the beginning of 2024, Royal Air Defence units have intercepted more than 1,580 drones in conjunction with Border Guard forces.
