Kharabsheh inaugurates monitoring and control centre at power company

AMMAN — Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Saleh Kharabsheh on Saturday highlighted the importance of global technological developments to enhance the contribution of local resources to the energy mix and reduce operational costs.

Kharabsheh's remarks were made during a visit to the Samra Electric Power Generation Company to inaugurate the monitoring and control centre. During the visit, he was briefed on the progress of the company, which was established in 2004 and is fully owned by the government, according to a ministry statement.

He also referred to the importance of the latest developments in the storage field.

Amjad Rawashdeh, the company chairman, reviewed the company's role and contribution to meeting electric loads.

Sufian Bataineh, director general of the Samra Company, said that the company has a compound capacity of 1,482 megawatts that constitutes 35 per cent of the consumed energy in the Kingdom.

Bataineh also acquainted the minister on the company's contribution to the stability of the National Electric Power Company through increasing electricity generation stations’ level of preparedness.

He also highlighted the importance of the Samra Company in providing the electric system with added value, reviewing some challenges facing the company.
