AMMAN — The Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) on Wednesday organised a workshop to assess the output of the “measures to adapt to climate change” project. J
VA Secretary-General Manar Al Mahasneh said that the workshop falls within the authority's efforts to ensure the sustainability of water resources, and to realise comprehensive development in the valley by building effective partnerships to address the effects of climate change-related challenges, develop irrigation and to help farmers achieve their goals.
The one million euro German Development Bank (KFW)-funded project extends until 2025, and includes basins 1-17 in the north of the valley, 33-39 in the east and 40-48 in the south, Mahasneh said.
The project aims to raise the efficiency of irrigation management and distribution, according to a JVA statement. The project will evaluate the King Abdullah Canal and the farmers’ water distribution system. From this point, the project will identify the required needs of the area, conduct field surveys of agricultural units to cut costs and decrease farmers’ material burdens and generate job opportunities.
