AMMAN — The Ministry of Justice launched a computerised system for legal aid in Jordan, which was attended by representatives from the Judicial Council, the Jordanian Bar Association, the National Centre for Human Rights, the Spanish embassy and other partners.
The Secretary-General of the Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Khuloud Al Abbadi, stated that the move falls in line with Royal directives to develop the judiciary and enhance the rule of law.
To achieve this, a number of amendments have been made to help any citizen or resident in Jordan to meet the right to legal aid, she said.
Legal aid is defined as legal representation before public prosecutors, courts and the Grand Criminal Court, in accordance with the prevailing legislation in criminal cases, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The Ministry has established a specialised directorate to provide legal aid to eligible categories.
Additionally, such a fund has been created with its financial resources determined under the ministry's supervision, she noted.
