Jordan’s veterinary pharmaceutical industry demands export support to reach full potential

AMMAN — Supporting the local veterinary pharmaceutical market’s sustainability is crucial for increasing industry exports, according to Fadi Al Atrash, the representative of the pharmaceutical and medical supplies sectors at the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI).

The veterinary pharmaceutical industry’s export opportunities are currently valued at around JD200 million, with 2022 exports reaching around JD87 million, said Atrash.

“The sector is reputable and viable, but still lacks support to increase exports and attract new investments,” Atrash added.

Scaling manufacturing operations and providing new job opportunities are among the industry’s key targets, he told The Jordan Times. Currently, there are 31 veterinary medicine production facilities, with a total capital of JD38 million, he added. 

Speaking with The Jordan Times, Jordanian pharmacist Husam Bader said that “the Jordanian pharmaceutical industry is generally known for high quality products,” adding that it lacks digitalisation and continuous technical and financial support to maintain the resilience of its operations.

Improved strategies and increased cooperation are essential for bolstering the capabilities of pharmaceutical companies, Bader said. “The room to enhance Jordan’s pharmaceutical sector is vast, because we truly have the needed expertise.”
