AMMAN — Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mahmoud Hmoud was elected on Tuesday as a judge at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the 2025–2027 term.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah said that Hmoud’s election, which took place during a joint session of the UN Security Council and General Assembly, reflects the international community’s confidence in his legal expertise and his ability to contribute to the ICJ’s work with professionalism and integrity.
Qudah stressed that the election highlights the ICJ’s role in upholding the rule of international law and reflects international recognition of Jordan’s principled positions and policies in defending international legality.
He also expressed the Kingdom’s appreciation to all countries that supported Jordan’s nomination of Ambassador Hmoud, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Qudah reiterated Jordan’s steadfast commitment to supporting the ICJ as the UN’s principal judicial body and to working with international partners to promote and uphold the rule of international law.
