Jordan's trade deficit up by 31.9% in 2021 — DoS

AMMAN — The Kingdom's trade balance deficit increased during 2021 by 31.9 per cent to JD8.701 billion, compared with 2020 when it stood at JD6.595 billion, the Department of Statistics (DoS) said on Sunday. 

According to a report on foreign trade in Jordan issued by the DoS, the volume of total exports in 2021 increased by 17.8 per cent to JD6.643 billion, compared with 2020, when it stood at JD5.639 billion, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Meanwhile, the value of national exports also increased last year by 19.7 per cent, or JD6.039 billion, compared with 2020, when it stood at JD5.044 billion, according to DoS data. 

The report also revealed that the value of re-exports stood at JD604.3 million in 2021, marking a 1.4 per cent increase, compared with 2020, which amounted to JD595 million. Jordan's imports in 2021 rose by 25.4 per cent to JD15.345 billion, compared with JD12.235 billion in 2020, the DoS figures showed.
