Jordan’s trade deficit up by 20.3% in Q1 of 2022 — DoS

AMMAN — The Kingdom's trade deficit increased during the first quarter of 2022 by 20.3 per cent to JD2.283 billion, compared with the same period in 2021 that stood at JD1.899 billion, the Department of Statistics (DoS) said on Monday.

According to a DoS report on foreign trade, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the volume of total exports in the January-March period of 2022 increased by 39.6 per cent to JD1.992 billion, compared with the same period of 2021, when it stood at JD1.427 billion.

The value of national exports also increased during the first three months of the year by 43.1 per cent, or JD1.815 billion, compared with the same period of 2021, when it stood at JD1.268 billion, the DoS data showed.

The report also revealed that the value of re-exports stood at JD177.6 million, marking an increase of 11.3 per cent, compared with the same period of 2021 that registered a value of JD159.5 million. 

Jordan's imports in the first quarter of 2022 rose by 28.6 per cent to JD4.276 billion, compared with JD3.326 billion in the corresponding period of 2021, the DoS figures showed. 

The coverage ration of the Kingdom's total exports to imports in the January-March period stood at 46.6 per cent, compared to 42.9 per cent in the same period of last year, marking an increase of 3.7 per cent. 

At the monthly level, the national exports of the Kingdom in March 2022 reached JD715 million, up by 53.3 per cent when compared with the same month of 2021 when the value stood at JD466.4 million.
