AMMAN — Jordanians want an income tax law that can contribute to development and economic growth, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Rajai Muasher said on Wednesday.
During a meeting with the Chairman of the Jordanian Businessmen Association Hamdi Tabbaa and other members, the minister stressed the importance of conducting a comprehensive study for the new income tax law, in a way that allows the government to consider new ideas and opinions, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Muasher also called for revisiting tax procedures and tax statements in order to address tax evasion, adding that all reviews and opinions expressed in meetings with stakeholders will be taken into consideration when drafting the new law.
He stated that previous governments resorted to increasing taxes to cover shortfalls, an approach that “does not achieve justice”. Tabbaa highlighted the importance of stability in laws, due to their effects on attracting new investments into the Kingdom.
