AMMAN — President of the Textile, Readymade Clothes and Footwear Syndicate Sultan Allan described the current commercial activity in the local market as average and better than previous periods of the current year.
Allan said that the conditions facing Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have had their impact on the sector, despite price stability, with a decrease ranging between 3 and 5 per cent for some items, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He pointed out that the Kingdom's imports for winter clothes are estimated at about JD90 million.
Allan said that traders have made in-kind donations of $3.06 million to Gaza through the "Gaza in Our Hearts" campaign in coordination with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation, adding that 558,000 pieces of clothes have been donated.
He said that the clothing, shoes and fabric sector, the largest trading sector in the country, encompassing around 11,000 establishments nationwide, and employs 63,000 direct workers, the majority of whom are Jordanian.
There are 180 clothing and footwear brands operating and investing in the local market, Allan said.
