AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply and Minister of Labour Yousef Shamali called for establishing joint projects with South Korea that employ the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The minister made the remarks at the opening of a seminar on the Fourth Industrial Revolution's present and future, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The seminar was jointly organised by the Korean embassy in Amman and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Since 1962, Jordan and South Korea have been committed to working together in multiple areas of mutual interest, particularly in energy, communications, water and community and youth empowerment, the minister said.

Shamali referred to South Korea's "substantial" experience with the Fourth Industrial Revolution's applications,  which include greener automobiles, information technologies and 5G networks, noting that Jordan, which is rapidly advancing with digital transformation, might benefit from Korean expertise.

Regarding digital transformation, the minister noted that the Kingdom has emerged as a pioneer in the Middle East and North Africa region when it comes to fostering innovation, expanding job opportunities and developing digital and information systems.

In addition, he noted that Jordan has emerged as one of the top nations for experts in information technology, artificial intelligence, cyber-security and other areas connected to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The Jordanian government launched the "Jordanian Policy for Artificial Intelligence" and created the "National Charter for Artificial Intelligence Ethics", which covers the best application of artificial intelligence technologies, in recognition of the industrial revolution’s role in improving lives and achieving sustainable economic development.

Korean Ambassador Lee Jae-wan stressed the importance of increased cooperation between the two countries in various fields to reap the benefits of recent technological developments and opportunities in Jordan and South Korea.
