AMMAN — Jordanian Field Hospital/78 in Gaza continues its operations in the war-torn Strip performing critical life-saving surgeries.

The medical team on Saturday removed shrapnel from the skull of a six-month-old baby and saved a young woman's arm from amputation, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The hospital director said, "Our medical staff deals daily with various illnesses and injuries sustained by Gazans as a result of the ongoing Israeli air strikes. On Saturday, a child arrived at the hospital with a head injury and a suspected foreign body in his skull".

An orthopaedic specialist said that after carrying out the necessary tests and X-rays, the medical team performed a successful four-hour operation to remove a 5cm shrapnel fragment lodged in the child's skull and palate.

In another case, the medical team performed a five-hour operation on an 18-year-old girl with severe injuries to her left forearm. The arm was at risk of amputation due to shattered bones and damaged tissue and muscle.

The orthopaedic team performed a complex operation, inserting a metal plate and screws and reconstructing the damaged tissue and muscles, saving the girl's arm from amputation.

The families of the injured expressed their gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah and the staff of the Jordanian field hospital in northern Gaza for their assistance and support.

They acknowledged the "significant" contribution of the Jordanian Field Hospital Gaza/78 in alleviating the effects of the ongoing war, which has resulted in severe humanitarian conditions for the residents of the Gaza Strip.

According to a previous statement issued by the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) on June 3, the Jordanian field hospital in Gaza has treated more than 18,000 patients and performed 41 major surgeries and 16 minor surgeries since its establishment.

The implementation of the hospital was based on the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah, Supreme Commander of the Jordanian Armed Forces.
