Jordanian delegation affirms commitment to global coordination, sustainable development at G77, China Summit in Uganda

AMMAN — Jordan is participating in the 3rd South Summit of the Group of 77 and China, currently taking place in Kampala, Uganda.

Addressing the summit, Minister of State Wajih Azaizeh, head of the Jordanian delegation, said that the event is an opportunity to enhance coordination and exchange ideas on sustainable development and addressing global challenges. 

Azaizeh commended Uganda's efforts as the host country, highlighting its commitment to international coordination, mutual understanding, and global solidarity.  He also underscored Jordan's recognition of the sixtieth anniversary of the establishment of the G77 and China and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in 1964, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister also emphasised the need for continued international coordination to address challenges like geopolitical tensions, food and energy security, inflation, market volatility, forced displacement and the refugee crisis, 

Azaizeh also highlighted the importance of combating climate change effects, preserving biodiversity, and supporting the outcomes of climate change conferences, aligning with Jordan's national efforts for environmental protection and sustainable development.

 He also pointed out Jordan's focus on national water projects, smart agriculture, and adherence to the 2030 Agenda, reflecting a commitment to balanced economic, social, and environmental development.

Expressing concern about the financing gap for Sustainable Development Goals, Azaizeh called for increased global support and comprehensive efforts to accelerate progress. He also stressed Jordan's commitment to poverty reduction, education, health, and the empowerment of youth and women, evident in its policies and strategies.
