AMMAN — Several rehearsals have been conducted over the past week in preparation for a ceremony dubbed “Flag Parade” to take place on Thursday as the peak of the Kingdom's celebrations of the Great Arab Revolt centennial, Arab Renaissance and the Army Day.

The parade is the first of its kind in the country, where some 1,000 members of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) are scheduled to participate in the event, according to a Royal Court statement.

The parade is planned in a field named the "Banner Field", which was recently established within the Royal Court premises to celebrate these occasions.

Giving the names of "flag" to the parade and "banner" to the field highlights the symbolism of the occasions, with the architectural design of the field ensuring the appearance of the Jordan flag mast, one of the tallest in the world, in the background.

The most important part of the parade is presenting the Great Arab Revolt flag to the oldest JAF unit, the statement said, noting that the flag will be handed over to another unit in a similar ceremony next year.

The parade design “adopts the aesthetic school in sketching military shows”, the statement noted.

The ceremony will include military columns that march from JAF’s musical unit headquarters, the oldest JAF unit that was established in 1921, in two lines followed by cavalry and camel riders, until they meet with other participating soldiers positioned in the banner field.

The Jordan Television will broadcast the celebrations live, and there will be large screens installed in several parts of Amman to enable citizens and visitors to watch the entire ceremony, the statement added.
