AMMAN — Jordan on Monday welcomed an agreement reached between the US and Iran to end military operations and launch thorough negotiations aimed at reaching a lasting agreement.
In a statement on Monday, the Foreign Ministry described the deal as an “important step towards restoring regional and international security and stability.”
The statement also praised the efforts of Pakistan, Qatar, and other countries that contributed to reaching the agreement, as well as the positive response from both Washington and Tehran.
The ministry stressed the importance of achieving a permanent agreement that would reinforce security and stability in the region, while taking into account the security interests of regional countries and adhering to the principles of good-neighborliness, respect for sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs.
It also highlighted the importance of restoring security and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz to the situation that existed before February 28, 2026 [when the war began].
The ministry reaffirmed Jordan’s longstanding position in support of resolving disputes through diplomatic channels in line with international law and the United Nations Charter, as well as backing regional and international efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and prosperity for the peoples of the region and the world.
