AMMAN — Jordan has warned of “catastrophic” consequences of regional escalation, calling on all parties to resort to diplomacy and dialogue to resolve Iran’s nuclear issue.
In a statement on Sunday, the Foreign Ministry stressed the urgent need for concerted efforts to immediately end the escalation and safeguard the region and international peace and security from sliding further into war and conflict.
The ministry said Jordan is following with deep concern the repercussions of targeting Iranian nuclear facilities, and called for an end to the war and a return to negotiations to reach a political solution to the Iranian nuclear file.
The ministry’s spokesperson Sufian Qudah condemned the continued escalation in the region, emphasising the need to respect international law, the UN Charter, and the sovereignty of states.
Qudah underscored the importance of international action to stop the dangerous deterioration threatening the region’s security and stability, and to activate effective and impactful political pathways to resolve all regional crises in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions, in a manner that respects the rights of peoples and guarantees the sovereignty of nations.
The United States struck three nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday, joining Israel's bombing campaign after days of speculation over US involvement in the conflict.
