Jordan, Ukraine celebrate 30 years of diplomatic ties — ambassador

AMMAN — Jordanian-Ukrainian relations “are improving and heading towards more cooperation in a variety of fields”, Ukrainian Ambassador to Jordan Myroslava Shcherbatiuk said on Saturday. 

During a press conference at the Ukrainian embassy, Shcherbatiuk said that the two countries are celebrating 30 years of diplomatic ties this year. 

She noted that these relations have provided grounds for active cooperation in the commercial, economic, political, military and security fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. 

She also said that the two countries “see eye-to-eye on several decisive issues and meet the requirements necessary to enhance their partnership”, mainly in the food, security, economic, security and defence sectors. 

The ambassador also stressed that Amman and Kiev stand firm against any forms of terrorism and extremism, defending tolerance and international laws.

Shcherbatiuk said that her country considers Jordan a trustworthy partner, adding that Ukraine is ready to offer all types of assistance to the Kingdom to further enhance Jordan's status as an important player in the Middle East. 

January 22nd in Ukraine marks unity day, Shcherbatiuk noted, adding that “on this day 100 years ago, the Ukrainian People's Republic and the West Ukrainian People's Republic signed the Unification Act”.

The ambassador also inaugurated the first memorial monument of the Ukrainian poet Lesya Ukrainka who "inspired generations of Ukrainians" and became "a symbol of the Ukrainian culture and song traditions”.
