AMMAN — The Jordan Trail was chosen by the jury of the International Travel and Tourism Awards  as a final candidate for the category of the Best Adventure Destinations in the World 2019, according to a Jordan Trail Association (JTA) statement.

The Jordan Trail is a long-distance hiking trail that offers 40 days of hiking over more than 650 kilometres from Um Qais in the north to Aqaba in the south and passes through Petra and Wadi Rum.

The association submitted a nomination for the Jordan Trail several months ago.

Hundreds of applicants representing the world’s leading tourism destinations took part in the award presented by World Tourism Fair (WTM), and supported by the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO).

The award will be presented to the winners in November at a ceremony that will include tourism ministers and leaders of the tourism sector, according to the association.

JTA has won a number of prestigious awards already. As of last year, it was able to win the United Nations World Tourism Organisation award as the best emerging tourism organisation in the Middle East as well as the World Tourism Award in London, read the statement.

Furthermore, it was chosen by National Geographic as one of the best destinations in the world for the same year, according to the association.

JTA was established “by a group of adventurers” in 2015, with the goal of developing and managing a national trail, according to its website. The trail was realised by the efforts of more than forty volunteers who worked on way-marking the trail for three years.

Today, the Jordan Trail is managed by an elected board of directors that works on developing the association.
