AMMAN — Jordan has thanked Sweden for providing humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees and supporting the region in general.

At a recent meeting with Swedish Minister for Justice and Migration Morgan Johansson during his visit to the Kingdom, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury highlighted the current economic challenges, and the humanitarian and financial burdens Jordan is facing due to the situation in the region.

The two officials also reviewed bilateral ties and discussed means of boosting cooperation in the fields of economy and development, according to a statement from the ministry.

Fakhoury also reviewed the “Jordan 2025: vision and national strategy”, which is the Kingdom’s roadmap towards achieving development and growth.

He highlighted Sweden’s role in convincing the international community of the need to support countries affected by crises through financial aid and soft loans.

Johansson expressed his country’s willingness to continue to support Jordan and the region, especially concerning Syrian refugees, adding that Sweden has prepared a strategy to support the region to ensure empowering host communities and providing humanitarian aid for refugees, according to the statement.

Citing the donors’ conference, which was recently held in Kuwait, the Swedish minister said his country pledged some $40 million to the region.
