AMMAN — Jordan and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday issued a joint statement stressing the importance of following up on the implementation of the resulting agreements from the 17th session of the Jordanian-Saudi Joint Committee meetings.

Saudi Arabia welcomed Jordan's launch of the Economic Modernisation Vision, which will be implemented during the next 10 years, according to the statement.

Jordan expressed appreciation of the Saudi’s efforts to support Amman's development projects in various fields.

The two sides emphasised the importance of continuing cooperation over electricity interconnection between both kingdoms and enhancing cooperation in the energy efficiency field.

The two sides also commended Saudi companies' investments and projects in the renewable energy field in Jordan.

Saudi Arabia also expressed its appreciation of Jordan's support for its bid to host the World Expo2030 in Riyadh.

The two sides stressed the need to launch a “serious and effective international effort” to create a political horizon to resolve the Palestinian issue on the basis of a two-state solution.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia stressed the need for Israel to stop all illegal actions that undermine the two-state solution and the chances of achieving a fair peace.

In the communiqué, both sides stressed that Israel must respect the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

The statement also stressed the importance of respecting the role of the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Department, as the exclusive authority to supervise the affairs of Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sfarif.

Saudi Arabia also drew attention to the importance of the role of Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's Islamic and Christian holy sites, in safeguarding the holy shrines and maintaining the holy city's Arab, Islamic and Christian identity.

The joint statement also reiterated that the security of the two kingdoms “is intertwined”.

Jordan emphasised its full support for Saudi Arabia's measures to protect the Gulf country's security, stability and interests.

The two sides emphasised the importance of scaling up efforts to realise a political solution to the Syrian crisis and ending interference that threatens Syria's identity, unity and sovereignty.

Jordan and Saudi Arabia expressed hope that the Iraqi parties could reach a consensus towards government formation.

Both sides also emphasised the necessity to maintain Lebanon's security and stability, highlighting the need to support the Lebanese people.

They also agreed on the need to support international efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

They also called for scaling up anti-terrorism efforts.
