AMMAN — Jordan and Russia signed a mutual visa waiver agreement on Wednesday, allowing citizens of both countries to travel without a visa.
The agreement was announced during a joint press conference in Moscow by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The Cabinet had approved the agreement earlier this week, framing it as a step toward strengthening cooperation and opening new avenues for mutual interests.
“Jordan is committed to deepening its friendship with Russia,” Safadi said, adding that the visa exemption will help boost tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between our nations.
Safadi also highlighted ongoing regional challenges, particularly the crisis in Gaza, according to the public service TV, Al Mamlaka.
He reaffirmed Jordan’s position, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, in calling for an end to the aggression and massacres in the Strip.
Talks between Safadi and Lavrov also touched on efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave.
The two officials discussed expanding cooperation in various sectors. Safadi said both sides are looking forward to the upcoming session of the Jordanian-Russian High Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation, scheduled to convene later this year.
Jordan and Russia previously signed a visa waiver in 2017 for holders of diplomatic, official, and special passports. That agreement came into effect in January 2018.
