AMMAN — The Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army (JAF) announced on Monday the relocation of its field hospital from the Tel Al Hawa area in southern Gaza to Khan Younis in the north, citing security concerns and the need to protect medical staff while maintaining healthcare services.
A military source noted that the hospital’s vicinity had been subjected to continuous shelling and large-scale demolitions in recent weeks, which shattered building exteriors and damaged equipment and medical devices, disrupting several services, according to a JAF statement.
The source also stressed that patient numbers had "sharply" declined, leaving the hospital isolated and largely non-operational due to ongoing hostilities, adding that safety measures had been taken to protect staff and patients.
Access to the facility had also become increasingly dangerous, with supply routes threatened, further complicating operations, according to the statement.
The JAF also said that relocating to Khan Younis would allow the hospital to serve a larger population and provide urgently needed care, particularly as patients and the wounded face overcrowding and limited treatment options in other facilities.
The source stressed that the move aims to ensure the sustainability of Jordan’s medical efforts in Gaza, noting that maintaining operations at Tel Al Hawa, where the hospital had been based for more than 16 years, was no longer viable under current conditions.
The JAF also reiterated its readiness to resume services in Tel Al Hawa if the security situation improves.
The hospital had previously come under direct attack at the outset of the Gaza war, prompting a temporary suspension of services before operations later resumed under safer conditions, the statement read.
