Jordan receives 71% long-term rainfall average — Water Ministry

AMMAN — So far, the Kingdom has received 71 per cent of Jordan’s long-term rainfall average of 8.1 billion cubic metres since the start of the rainy season, accounting for 89 per cent of last year's overall rainfall, the Ministry of Water and Irrigation said on Wednesday. Salt recorded the highest amount of precipitation over the past 24 hours, amounting to 57 mm, while Amman reported 34.2 mm, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

A ministry statement also announced a significant increase in the Kingdom’s dam storage, as the recent rainfall channelled some 15 million cubic metres (mcm) into the Kingdom's dams in 24 hours, increasing storage levels to 105 mcm, or about 38 per cent of their total capacity. The King Talal Dam received the highest quantity of water at 8.6 mcm, followed by Al Waleh Dam at 3 mcm.
