AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday met with Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar to discuss regional developments, establishing peace in Afghanistan and bolstering cooperation.

During their meeting, Safadi reaffirmed the Kingdom’s support to efforts exerted by the Afghan government to establish peace, combat terrorism and fulfil the aspirations of “the brothers in Afghanistan” in achieving growth and prosperity, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

Safadi also expressed condemnation of the recent, recurrent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, which resulted in the death of tens of innocent civilians and members of security forces.

The Jordanian foreign minister also stressed that all forms of violence and terrorism are rejected.

On his part, Atmar extended appreciation for the Kingdom’s supportive stance towards bringing about peace in Afghanistan and its role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, in ensuring stability and security in the region and encouraging cooperation among Muslim countries.

The Afghan foreign minister also underlined the significance of the Hashemite Custodianship of Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites and its role in safeguarding the historical and legal status quo of the city.

Both ministers agreed on boosting coordination in international fora, especially as part of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
