AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Thursday expressed its deepest condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Venezuela for the victims of the two earthquakes that struck the country.

Ministry Spokesperson Fouad Majali reiterated the Kingdom's full solidarity and standing with Venezuela during this painful ordeal, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

He extended sincere condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

Two earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale struck Venezuela, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quakes caused dozens of deaths and hundreds of injuries in an initial toll, while witnesses reported collapsed buildings and scenes of panic in the capital, Caracas, AFP reported.

Acting President Delcy Rodriguez declared a state of emergency across the country, and announced the closure of Caracas Airport, which reportedly suffered severe damage.

Rodríguez announced on Thursday that at least 32 people were killed and more than 700 others were injured.
