'Jordan, Morocco reject deal of century’

AMMAN — Jordan and Morocco reject the so-called “deal of the century”, Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Musa Maaytah said on Thursday during a meeting with the Senate’s Moroccan-Jordanian Parliamentary Brotherhood Committee.

Amman and Rabat see eye to eye on a number of issues, at the head of which, is the establishment of a Palestinian state on the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, as well as Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites, Maaytah added.

During a meeting with the Moroccan delegates, Maaytah stressed the strength of Jordanian- Moroccan ties supported by His Majesty King Abdullah and King Mohammed VI of Morocco; as well as both kingdoms’ keenness to enhance ties at all levels, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

For her part, Senate committee President Khadija Zayyani expressed her admiration of Jordan's political experience, adding that Jordan is advancing in its parliamentary and democratic endeavours.

"Jordan is surrounded by a volcano of problems and crises, but it all disappears before King Abdullah's prudent policy in dealing with these crises wisely," Zayyani said.

She also highlighted the Moroccan position in supporting the Kingdom’s Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites, stressing King Mohammed VI's support of Jordanian positions towards the Palestinian cause.

Jordanian head of the Lower House’s Jordanian-Moroccan Brotherhood Committee MP Wafa Bani Mustafa also stressed the special relationship between Jordan and Morocco, noting that both countries agreed on various issues.
