AMMAN –– A goal in the 77th minute from midfielder Yaser Kasim gave Iraq an important 1-0 win over Jordan in Group D of the Asian Cup on Monday.
Taking the ball from outside the Jordan box, Kasim, who plays for Swindon Town in the third tier of English football, found his way past three defenders and his shot deflected off Tariq Khattab to pass goalkeeper Amer Shafi.
Jordan finished with 10 men after Anas Bani Yaseen was sent off in the 84th minute.
Defending champions Japan are now on top of Group D after a 4-0 rout of Palestine earlier in the evening.
