AMMAN — Jordan and Korea on Monday held a signing ceremony for the Agreement on Economic and Trade Cooperation, marking a significant step towards boosting bilateral economic relations.
The agreement was signed by Korean Ambassador to Jordan Pilwoo Kim and Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah, representing their respective governments, according to a Korean embassy statement.
The agreement replaces the trade agreement signed between the two countries in 1972, reflecting the “substantial” expansion and diversification of economic ties over the past decades.
According to statistics of Korea, bilateral trade between Jordan and Korea has reached some $619 million in 2025, with automobiles and its parts accounting for around 70 per cent of Korean exports to Jordan.
Beyond automobiles, cooperation between the two countries has been expanding in various sectors, including apparel, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and other industrial products, reflecting the broadening scope of economic engagement.
Based on this agreement, both governments expect to further enhance economic cooperation and expand areas of collaboration, including through the Korea–Jordan Joint Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, according to the statement.
The commission will serve as a platform to promote economic relations on the basis of mutual benefit, enhance cooperation in trade, industry and service, explore opportunities to diversify areas for such cooperation, and consult on any problem in the course of the development of economic relations.
The agreement is expected to provide an institutional framework for promoting trade and investment and for deepening economic partnership between the two countries, the statement added.
