Jordan-Iraqi joint committee to meet in Baghdad in February

AMMAN — The Jordanian-Iraqi joint committee will meet in Baghdad February 8-9, with boosting economic cooperation to top the agenda,  Minister of Industry, Trade, Supply and Labour Yousef Shamali said on Tuesday.

Other topics of discussion will include enhancing bilateral trade and addressing trade difficulties, methods of stimulating the private sectors of both countries to avail of the opportunities available in Iraq and Jordan, said the minister, who will lead the Jordanian delegation at the meeting.   

The committee will also review ways to establish further private investments, particularly in light of the Investment Environment Law’s unprecedented incentives for investors, as well as the multiple investment opportunities present in Iraq, Shamali said.  

The meetings will also review the progress of the joint economic zone project and the Jordanian-Iraqi-Egyptian tripartite partnerships, as well as cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, customs, healthcare, food, trade and industry, and others, Shamali said. 

On the sidelines of the panel meetings, there will be a Jordanian-Iraqi business forum to enhance cooperation among both countries' businesspeople and private sectors, the minister said, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
