Jordan hails Macron's call for arms embargo on Israel

AMMAN — Jordan has welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's call for halting arms exports to Israel.

Macron called Saturday for a halt on arms deliveries to Israel for use in Gaza, and urged for a political solution.

"I think that today, the priority is that we return to a political solution, that we stop delivering weapons to fight in Gaza," Macron told French broadcaster France Inter.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah stressed that Macron’s stance aligns with international efforts, including resolutions from the UN Security Council, the General Assembly, and the International Court of Justice, all of which have called for an immediate ceasefire and measures to prevent further humanitarian atrocities in Gaza, according to a ministry statement.

Qudah commended France's unwavering support for the Palestinians' right to freedom and self-determination, particularly within the framework of a two-state solution, praising the country's efforts to provide humanitarian and relief aid to Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The spokesperson also stressed the importance of imposing a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, warning that the lack of serious repercussions would only embolden further Israeli aggression in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as ongoing violations in the occupied West Bank.
