Jordan, Greece discuss means to boost cooperation at Athens meeting

AMMAN — The fifth session of the Joint Greece-Jordan Committee for Economic, Cultural and Technical Cooperation discussed bolstering cooperation in various fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The meetings, which were held in Athens, were headed by Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Dana Al Zu'bi from the Jordanian side, in the presence of Jordan’s Ambassador to Greece Ahed Sweidat. 

The Greek side was headed by Deputy Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Openness Konstantinos Fragkogiannis, in the presence of Greek Ambassador Mara Marinaki.

The two sides focused on strengthening cooperation in the fields of construction, energy, tourism and agriculture, highlighting the importance of cooperation in the fields of education, scientific research and student exchange programmes. 

Zu'bi said that the meeting is a “good opportunity” to discuss global economic challenges, expressing hope for further cooperation in facing common economic difficulties, most notably adopting an open economic policy that supports trade liberalisation. 

Fragkogiannis stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation in the trade and economic fields, higher education, transport, energy, agriculture and other fields.

He added that the committee’s meetings will help raise the level of cooperation between the countries, calling for facilitating trade and investment procedures.

The committee has reached the final stages in the preparation of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the countries in a number of fields. 

During the meeting, the committee stressed the importance of completing the signing of memoranda of understanding in the fields of law and policy enforcement, double taxation and the cultural and technical cooperation programme for 2022-2025.
