AMMAN — The Jordanian Field Hospital South Gaza said on Wednesday that it continues to provide prosthetic and rehabilitation services to Palestinians through its prosthetics clinic under the Restoring Hope initiative, helping amputees regain mobility and resume their daily activities.
The clinic has been equipped with more than 1,000 advanced prosthetic limbs supplied by the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), according to a JAF statement.
Using advanced technology, the clinic assesses patients, manufactures permanent prosthetic limbs and fits them within two hours. Each prosthesis is individually tailored to meet the patient’s functional needs while allowing adjustments to accommodate future physical changes.
The clinic also provides prosthetic limbs for children designed to adapt to different stages of growth, as well as flexible carbon-fibre feet suitable for Gaza’s damaged terrain, the statement said.
A specialised team of prosthetists and physiotherapists provides rehabilitation before and after fitting, helping patients regain mobility, balance and independence.
The initiative is part of the JAF’s humanitarian and medical efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians and support their return to normal life, the statement added.
Since the start of the current rotation, the clinic has fitted 126 upper and lower limb prostheses, bringing the total number of prosthetic limbs provided since the launch of the Restoring Hope initiative to more than 1,200, according to the statement.
Jordan runs two military field hospitals in Gaza, one in the Strip's north and was established in 2009 following the war in 2008, and the second is in Khan Younis in the south, which was established in November 2023 at the peak of the Israeli war of aggression on the coastal enclave that erupted on October 7, 2023.
Besides the field hospitals in Gaza, the JAF established the Jordanian field hospital in Nablus in late November 2023.
Other humanitarian programmes include the land bridge for aid delivery, the mobile bakery, the Restoring Hope Initiative, which provides prosthetics for amputees, and the evacuation of critical cases to Jordanian hospitals.
