AMMAN – Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury, Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani and EU Ambassador to Jordan Andrea Matteo Fontana are scheduled to hold a press conference on Wednesday to announce an agreement between Jordan and the EU on simplifying the rules of origin.
A Planning Ministry statement said the agreement was within the framework of the Jordan Response Plan to the Syrian crisis.
The ministry said the agreement ensures the entry of made-in-Jordan products into the EU market in implementation of the outcomes of the London donor conference, held in February, to address the Syrian crisis and support countries affected by the refugee influx.
The outcome of the 10th session of the Jordan-EU Partnership Committee will be shared with the press, said the statement, adding that an EU grant to fund the renewable energy and energy efficiency programme would be signed.
The press conference will be held at the Royal Cultural Centre in Amman.
Last month, the government said negotiations to open up Jordan’s access to the EU market should be concluded by the end of July.
Under the deal, Jordan should be able to receive improved access to the European market through simplified rules of origin to increase the Kingdom’s capacity to cope with the Syrian refugee crisis.
