Jordan, Egypt and Iraq trade ministers agree to strengthen cooperation

Virtual meeting follows up on trilateral ministerial talks in Cairo on December 12

AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali, Iraqi Minister of Industry and Minerals Manhal Khabbaz and Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Gamea on Thursday held a virtual meeting to follow up on the trilateral ministerial talks that took place in Cairo on December 12.

The meeting was held in implementation of the outcomes of the trilateral summit held in Amman on August 25, which brought together His Majesty King Abdullah, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al Kadhimi, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Thursday's ministerial discussions went over the necessary action mechanisms to implement decisions of the Cairo trilateral talks.

The ministers agreed on a set of steps to enhance industrial integration and facilitate trade between the three countries, in addition to the joint Iraqi-Jordanian economic estate.

Discussions also identified national contact parties from the three countries to discuss the necessary measures to facilitate joint trade, overcome difficulties, and frame industrial cooperation and integration next January with the aim of assessing developments in all relevant fields.

The August trilateral summit, attended by HRH Crown Prince Hussein, covered expanding economic, trade and investment cooperation, in service of shared interests and Arab causes.

Discussions at the summit, attended by senior officials from the three countries, also covered regional developments and means to bolster coordination and consultation between Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq on issues of mutual concern.
