AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has “strongly” condemned the storming of Al AqsaMosque/Al Haram Al Sharif by Israeli extremist settlers as provocative act and in violation of international law.
In a statement on Monday, the ministry said that extremist act represents a "blatant" and unacceptable violation of international law and the historical and legal status quo of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
The ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah warned against the consequences of the Israeli violations and provocations which, he said, would not have happened without protection of occupation authorities.
He called on Israel, as the occupying power, to end all practices and violations against Al Aqsa Mosque and to respect its sanctity.
The spokesperson also reiterated that Al Aqsa Mosque, with its total area of 144 dunums, is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, reiterating that the Jordan-run Jerusalem Awqaf and Aqsa Affairs Depaartment is the sole authority able to supervise its affairs and manage entries to the site, according to international law and the legal and historical status quo.
