Jordan condemns Israel’s 'attack' on Christians in Jerusalem

AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the Israeli occupation authorities’ assault on Christians in occupied Jerusalem during a celebrations of "Holy Saturday".

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry's spokesperson, Fouad Majali, affirmed the Kingdom’s “absolute rejection and condemnation of illegal Israeli restrictive measures targeting Christians.”

He stressed the need to end all actions that obstruct Muslims and Christians from practicing their religious rites in their places of worship, according to a Foreign Ministry statement, the statement said.

The statement called for respecting the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its holy sites, reiterating that Israel has no sovereignty over Jerusalem.

It also called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to stop its violations against Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem.

The statement also called on the international community to ensure respect for the city's historical and legal status and fulfill the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent, sovereign state on their national soil based on the two-state solution.
