Jordan condemns Israeli raid on UNRWA training centre in East Jerusalem

AMMAN — Jordan has condemned an Israeli raid on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Kalandia Training Centre in occupied East Jerusalem, describing it as a "flagrant" violation of international law and the immunities afforded to UN agencies.

In a statement on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Fouad Majali reiterated the Kingdom's “firm rejection and condemnation of Israel's systematic campaign against UNRWA,” accusing the Israeli authorities of targeting the relief agency, restricting its institutions, and undermining its humanitarian mission.

Majali said that the raid constituted a “clear” violation of international law and contradicted the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) advisory opinion issued in October 2025, which reaffirmed Israel's obligation to facilitate UNRWA's operations throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.

He said that the measures form part of what he described as the Israeli government's extremist policies and illegal practices in the occupied West Bank, aimed at dismantling UNRWA and eroding its symbolic significance as an institution linked to the rights of Palestine refugees, including the right to return and compensation under international law, particularly UN General Assembly Resolution 194.

Majali warned that Israel's actions against UNRWA could have serious humanitarian consequences, stressing that the agency provides essential services that cannot be replaced.

He urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by opposing Israeli measures targeting UNRWA and ensuring the political and financial support needed for the agency to continue delivering essential services across its five fields of operation in line with its UN mandate.
