AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned recent remarks by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the displacement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border crossing as a “flagrant violation” of international law and principles.
In a statement issued Friday, the ministry denounced the “hostile and unacceptable” rhetoric by extremist Israeli officials, warning that such statements represent an attack on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to remain on their land and establish an independent and sovereign state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Ministry spokesperson Fouad Mijalli reiterated Jordan’s “unequivocal rejection” of all attempts to forcibly alter the status quo in the occupied Palestinian territories, accusing Israel of employing siege and starvation as tools to coerce Palestinians into leaving their homeland.
“These actions are part of a systematic Israeli policy aimed at erasing Palestinian presence, in continued defiance of international law and UN resolutions,” Mijalli said, adding that such practices amount to forced displacement, an act Jordan considers a war crime.
He also reaffirmed the Kingdom’s full support for Egypt’s position rejecting any attempts to expel Palestinians from Gaza, warning that such moves represent a broader effort to undermine and dismantle the Palestinian cause.
Calling on the international community to act, Mijalli urged world powers to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities by pressuring Israel to halt its military campaign in Gaza and rein in inflammatory rhetoric from government officials.
