AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry condemned Israel on Thursday for bombing an UNRWA school in the Nuseirat refugee camp, which killed dozens, including six UNRWA staff members, and injured several Palestinians.
The ministry considered the attack a "blatant" violation of international law, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Sufian Qudah, the ministry's spokesperson said that Israel's ongoing violation of international law is a result of the absence of a decisive international stance, which has caused "unprecedented death, destruction, and a severe humanitarian crisis".
Qudah reiterated the Kingdom's firm rejection and condemnation of the Israeli actions, which he said contradict humanitarian values and international law, particularly the 1949 Geneva Convention protecting civilians during wartime.
The spokesperson also emphasised the urgent need to protect civilians, vital facilities, and humanitarian centres and shelters, which are protected under international law.
Qudah also said that Israel, as the occupying power, bears full legal and moral responsibility for the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.
"Israel's targeting of aid workers and UN personnel, including those from UNRWA, represents a new war crime, adding to the existing violations that have resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people."
Qudah also called on the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, to take immediate and decisive action to stop these crimes, ensure the protection of Palestinians, and support their legitimate right to an independent, sovereign state along the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
