Jordan condemns Israeli attack on Red Cross office in Gaza

AMMAN — Jordan on Saturday condemned the ongoing systematic targeting of civilians and relief facilities in the Gaza Strip by Israeli occupation forces.

The Foreign Ministry said that the latest of these attacks was the Israeli bombardment that targeted the vicinity of the International Committee of the Red Cross office on Friday, resulting in the death and injury of dozens and damage to the organisation's headquarters, according to a ministry statement.

Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah reaffirmed the Kingdom's "absolute" condemnation and rejection of Israel's persistent violations of international law and international humanitarian law, targeting civilians and the headquarters of relief organisations and their workers, and endangering their lives.

Qudah said that these assaults flagrantly breach the 1949 Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, and a practice that reflects a lack of accountability and impunity.

The spokesperson stressed the necessity for the international community and international organisations and bodies, especially the Security Council, to act immediately and effectively to ensure the protection of civilians and relief facilities that provide vital support to the Palestinians.

Qudah also underscored the need to enable these organisations and bodies to perform their humanitarian tasks without obstacles and to ensure their safety.
