Jordan condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi vessel, reiterates support for Riyadh

AMMAN — Jordan has condemned the attack launched by the Houthi militia against a Saudi vessel in the Red Sea.

In a statement on Saturday, the Foreign Ministry condemned the attack as a “flagrant violation of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, and a threat to the safety and security of maritime navigation.”

The ministry affirmed Jordan's rejection and denunciation of the assault, emphasising Amman’s absolute solidarity with Riyadh and its full support for all measures taken to protect Saudi Arabia’s security, stability and assets.

Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed a missile attack on Saudi Arabia on Saturday.

The Saudi-led coalition hit Houthi military sites threatening Red Sea shipping after the rebels targeted vessels there.

"The terrorist Houthi military... targeted commercial ships in the Red Sea," Turki Al Maliki said in a statement on X, adding the coalition had "carried out a decisive and strong response" targeting Houthi military sites used to threaten Red Sea shipping and that the "military response is now over".
