AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday condemned the continued escalation of settler attacks against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, including recent arson attacks targeting two mosques north of Ramallah.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Majali reiterated Jordan’s absolute rejection of the attacks, as an extension of the policies of Israel’s extremist government and its ongoing illegal practices in the occupied West Bank.
Majali also warned that statements by Israeli officials continue to fuel extremism and violence against Palestinians and undermine prospects for a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, holding Israel as the occupying power fully responsible for the attacks.
Majali called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and compel the occupying power to halt the escalation and settler violence, hold perpetrators accountable, and ensure they are brought to justice.
He reiterated that a just and comprehensive peace can only be achieved through the realisation of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of an independent state on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
